Lucarne runs on your Mac. It has no account, and it collects nothing about you or your photos. The app sends three things over the internet: a check for a new version once a day, anonymous usage statistics if you agree to share them, and the AI models you choose to download.
The app
- No account, no advertising. Lucarne has no sign-in and no advertising.
- Your photos stay on your Mac. Your photos, your library, and your edits are kept on your Mac. The AI features run on your Mac too, and Lucarne does not upload your photos.
- Update checks. Once a day, the app checks for a new version, and the request carries only the version you have. The server that provides updates adds the day’s checks up by version and keeps no IP address or anything else. Whether to install a new version is up to you.
- Anonymous usage statistics. When you first open the app, it asks whether you want to share anonymous usage statistics; nothing is recorded until you agree. The statistics are a summary of each day: the versions of the app and of macOS, the chip, the interface language, how long the app was used, the size of the library as a range, and how many times each feature was used. They contain no photos, file names, or paths, and nothing that identifies you, your Mac, or your copy of the app. They are encrypted on your Mac before they are sent; the server cannot open them, and only we can read them, on our own computer. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Privacy; when you stop sharing, statistics not yet sent are deleted too.
- AI model downloads. An AI model is downloaded from downloads.lucarneapp.com only when you choose to download it. As with any download, the server that provides it receives your IP address and the name of the file requested. Lucarne sends no other information with it.
- AI assistants you connect. An AI assistant you connect to Lucarne can read information from your library and previews of your photos. What it does with them, including sending them to its provider, is governed by that assistant and its provider, not by Lucarne. Whether you connect one, and what it may do, is your choice.
